March 3 was the first meeting of Hello! English Club. I didn’t expect a lot of people to come. Twenty people came! We’ve been gaining popularity ever since then.

The English you speak in a classroom can feel repetitive and fake. The goal of our club is to give our members a casual, relaxed, and real world environment to speak English. That’s why we chose to have it at a coffee shop (thanks Sonata!). It’s important to keep it fun. We often play speaking games. It’s a great way to gain self-confidence when speaking English. Our discussion topics have included plastic surgery, poaching, childhood, beggars, and the environment. We have debates too. Our last debate was “What is more important? Love or your job?”. Everyone wanted to share their opinion about this.

My wife and I started Hello! English Club because we wanted to give people a place to practice real English. We also want to give back to the community. That’s why this club is free (and always will be). We think it’s important to practice what you’re learning (not only the theory).
I hope to see you at our next meeting. Say “Hi!” to Sean and Thuy.
